Independent Artist Series returns with student-written work

Miami University Theatre’s Independent Artist Series (IAS) provides an outlet for students’ creativity and encourages them to experiment with theatrical form. Modeled after the “storefront” theatre movement, the series presents existing plays, created work, or any variety of live performance fully produced by students. This season, IAS is producing “How to Write Her Autobiography,” written by Chelsea Hoy and directed by Maura Kesterson.

HOW TO WRITE HER AUTOBIOGRAPHY
By Chelsea Hoy
Directed by Maura Kesterson

How to Write Her Autobiography is a play about two women who, after a miscommunication five years in the past, meet again at a mutual friend's wedding. Drunkenly reminiscing and writing the story of their lives together, they uncover secrets and finally come to a mutual understanding.

Junior English: Creative Writing and Literature double major and IAS playwright Chelsea Hoy gets to supervise rehearsals for How to Write Her Autobiography and contribute her vision to the director, senior Theatre and Arts Management major Maura Kesterson. Hoy feels confident and excited about the play and the team behind it.

“This piece, to me, is a manifestation of characters I personally relate to, and that I hope other members of the audience can relate to, too. I hope the audience leaves the show touched by Laura and Crystal’s story. I want them to show the audience that it is never too late for love, especially self-love.” Hoy said.

How to Write Her Autobiography runs February 24-26, 2023 at 7:30pm in Hiestand Hall 100 and is free and open to the public.
