Miami University’s new adjunct instructor for FAS 360: Fashion and Digital Tools, Danisha Brown, just showed her Ready-to-Wear collection at Paris Fashion Week!

Brown exhibited the collection on October 1 at La Galerie Bourbon. The pieces are from her designs for SWIM WITH POPPIES LLC, which she also founded. 

“I believe my unique color combinations and avid success from my shows in Miami pushed the producers of the show to accept me,” Brown said. “They look for up-and-coming designers that have a strong point of view and they deem will be successful in the industry.”

Her mother worked as an independent lingerie sales rep. Following in her footsteps, Brown’s new collection embraces her strong affinity for lingerie with nostalgic hues.

“I remember touching all of [my mother’s] beautiful materials, lace appliqués, and trim,” Brown said. “The nostalgia of this inspired me to create hybrid looks that integrate nighttime details into playful silhouettes. It’s about collecting remnants from my past and collaging them in a way that tells a story about a woman who embraces her girlhood.”

When not putting her craft on the runway, Brown enjoys helping her students at Miami to find their own unique voice.

 “I don’t want cookie-cutter students who are contrived displaying minimal innovation,” Brown said. “I want my students to thrive in this arena of fashion and business.”
