From Nov. 9-12, Lexi Mangrum-Prokopiof, an honors student with a double major in Theatre and Art History, attended the American for Society for Theatre Research in Providence, Rhode Island. She was selected from among national applicants to participate in an undergraduate work group.

Mangrum-Prokopiof was joined at the conference by Associate Professor of Theatre Ann Elizabeeth Armstrong and Chair and Professor of Theatre Matt Omasta. Several Miami University Theatre alumni also attended, including Zach Dailey (MA ‘16), Sarah Saddler (MA ‘13), and Bryan Schmidt (BA ‘08).

Mangrum-Prokopiof’s paper, “Fooling Around the Royal Courts, From Nanny to Court Jester: A Reading of Portrait of Elisabeth, Court Fool to Anne of Hungary,” originated as an Undergraduate Summer Scholars project and Honors with Distinction project advised by Armstrong.

“The goal of this working group is to stimulate the emergence of the next generation of scholars and expose undergraduate students to current scholarly trends,” said Armstrong.

“Lexi’s project is a unique example of interdisciplinary scholarship that uses methods from the visual arts to inform our understanding of the power of performance and recover overlooked histories of the female court jester.
