The Miami University Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce its selection by audition to participate in the CODA National Conference, a prestigious event celebrating excellence in orchestral performance. This honor places the Miami University Symphony Orchestra among an elite group, with only two university orchestras, including Purdue University, chosen for this distinguished opportunity.

The orchestra's performance is scheduled to take place at the McAfee Auditorium in Belmont University on February 16th at 7:30 PM. This marks a significant moment for the Miami University Symphony Orchestra, as they share their musical prowess with a national audience in the vibrant music city of Nashville.

The carefully curated program for this special performance includes three captivating pieces that showcase the orchestra's versatility and skill. The repertoire features the enchanting Mother Goose Suite by Maurice Ravel, the dynamic Part 1 from the Three-Cornered Hat by Manuel de Falla, and the world premiere of Defiance, a composition by Martin Hebel. Defiance has been specially commissioned to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra.

The world premiere of Defiance holds particular significance for the orchestra, as it not only adds a fresh and innovative piece to their repertoire but also pays tribute to the remarkable milestone of 120 years of musical excellence. The composition is dedicated to the orchestra's conductor, Ricardo Averbach, whose leadership has been instrumental in shaping the orchestra's legacy.

Ricardo Averbach expressed his excitement about the upcoming performance. "Being selected to perform at the CODA National Conference is a testament to the exceptional talent and dedication of our musicians. We are honored to share our music with a wider audience and look forward to presenting the world premiere of Defiance, a composition that adds a new chapter to the rich history of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra."

Members of the press, music enthusiasts, and the community at large are encouraged to join the Miami University Symphony Orchestra at McAfee Auditorium on February 16th at 7:30 PM for an evening of musical brilliance and celebration. This event promises to be a memorable experience as the orchestra continues to make history and set new standards in the world of orchestral performance.
