Hiestand Galleries will be hosting an intriguing exhibit titled "Contesting and Bridging Boundaries and Borders: the US-Mexico Indigenous and Migration Experience" from March 11 to 21, 2024.

The exhibit features a diverse array of artists, including Diane Fellows from Miami University's Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Adrian Jésus Falcon from the Falcon Art Center Foundation in Del Rio, TX, Diana Lizbeth Zuñiga Hernandez from the Global Indigenous collective in Hidalgo, Mexico, Gion DeFrancesco from Miami University's Department of Theatre, and Miami University Architecture Studios: Boundaries, Borders and the Imaginary 2021 and 2023.

The exhibit kicks off with a reception for the artists on Thursday, March 14, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., followed by an artist talk with Diane Fellows at 5:50 p.m. in ART 100.

The multi and mixed-media installation presenting stories of border communities along the US–Mexico Border of the Rio Grande. Indigenous languages and migration narratives, border landscapes and personal stories of crossing or the inability to cross the US–Mexico border are experienced. The exhibition also connects visitors to an online gallery of architectural design studio work highlighting Studio Borders, Boundaries and the Imaginary processes addressing migration across the US-Mexico border, specifically Del Rio, TX–Acuña, Mexico.

In addition to the physical exhibit, the online gallery features the student work and the process at The ECC Biennale, Venice, Italy.

The exhibit promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of the complexities of border experiences and the resilience of indigenous communities.
