Meet 2019 CCA Graduate Kayla Edwards

Kayla Edwards

Kayla Edwards, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design
Double major: French

Next Stop: Designer for John Poe Architects in Miamisburg, OH.

This summer, Kayla will be studying to take the NCIDQ exam in October. NCIDQ Certification is the industry's recognized indicator of proficiency in interior design principles and a designer's commitment to the profession.

How did you learn about the opportunity at John Poe Architects?

The Marketing Manager at the firm reached out to me through LinkedIn in September of 2018 and offered me an interview. Three days later, they sent me an offer letter, and in December, I started working there full-time through J-term. The entire firm was supportive of me during my final semester of college. They kept me on part-time through the semester, and after graduation, they hired me on as a full-time designer.

What are you most proud of during your time at Miami?

I am most proud of my dedication and hard work during my time at Miami. I commuted all four years from Beavercreek. I was making this drive five days a week, taking classes full-time for both my majors and working part-time as a server and a dance instructor in Monroe.

Can you share an inspiring story from your time at Miami?

My professors were my biggest inspiration during my time in the Interior Design and French departments. I had the opportunity to lead fundraising efforts for professors who had cancer, then again to continue the work of a professor who passed away during my second and third year. The faculty became family, and I know that I have forever mentors. I am beyond thankful for their support, encouragement, and passion.
