Matt Abbott, Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance
Magna Cum Laude

Next Step: University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM)

This summer, Matt will be preparing for graduate school at the University of Cincinnati in the College-Conservatory of Music. He will be studying with saxophone professor Dr. James Bunte to receive his Master's degree. He hopes to one day be a professor, and this degree is a step in that direction.

How did you hear about CCM?

Dr. Long, the saxophone professor at Miami, is good friends with Dr. Bunte. He knew how great of a program it is and really pushed me to audition. Many of the professors at Miami really helped me practice for my audition. Dr. Long has been a great teacher, and I would not trade the experience I gained from him for anything. Ms. MacPhail, the piano accompaniment teacher, also really helped me with my pre-screening video. A lot of the other faculty were also beneficial with this process, and I am very grateful for them.

What are you most proud of during your time at Miami?

I am really proud of being in the wind ensemble every year. I made some amazing friends that will last a lifetime. I particularly enjoyed the wind ensemble because of Mr. Speck. He created a fantastic atmosphere that made you enjoy playing music. He was truly one of the best educators I have ever had. I also enjoyed it because I really loved just playing music with other people, so the wind ensemble was very special to me.
