A Steinway Artist celebration and recital honoring associate professor of piano at Miami University, Dr. Frank Huang, will be held on Monday, October 4. Huang joined the prestigious roster of 1500 international artists in classical, jazz, popular, religious and new age in November 2019. Willis Music, Cincinnati’s local Steinway dealer, will present the Steinway Artist designation award during the celebration.

William Steinway created the Steinway Artist designation to be awarded to a professional concertizing pianist who has achieved an exceptional level of success and artistry in the industry. Notable Steinway artists include Krystian Zimmerman, Keith Jarrett, Diana Krall, Artur Rubinstein, Sergei Rachmaninov, and Vladimir Horowitz.

“Joining the Steinway family and sharing this incredible honor with these iconic legends are truly humbling,” said Huang. “I am grateful for the support that I have received from the Department of Music and the College of Creative Arts and I am excited to celebrate this achievement with our community.”

Huang has achieved an exceptional level of success and artistry both in his classroom at Miami University and as an artist with international acclaim. He has performed at notable venues such as the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, Benaroya Hall (Seattle), Zelazowa Wola (Warsaw), Kennedy Center (Washington DC), Dame Myra Recital Series at Chicago’s Cultural Center, Lincoln Center in New York, and St. Martin in the Fields, London, UK.

Huang is also an active recording artist. His recordings can be found on the Centaur Records and Nimbus Alliance labels and his concerts have been featured on various radio and television broadcasts across the United States and abroad. As an avid chamber musician, he has collaborated with members of the Cleveland Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in recitals. Committed to promoting the composers and lesser-known works and music of our time, he has performed and recorded the music of Mark Applebaum, Augusta Read Thomas, Lera Auerbach, Jennifer Higdon, and Jack Gallagher.

“The Department of Music is proud to have an artist of Frank’s caliber on our faculty,” said Department Chair, Dr. Chris Tanner. “Not only does he inspire audiences across the nation and the world through his performances, but he also impacts our own students in a profound way. When our students hear Dr. Huang perform, they understand what it means to achieve the highest level of musical excellence.”

Hear Huang’s mastery of the Steinway in Souers Recital Hall on Monday, October 4, at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
