Carlin Jr. (CPE) •Alexander Dawson (MME) Note: In the last three years, 8 awards for SEAS students (out of less than 30 at Miami University) Student projects School of Engineering & Applied Science Highlights Academic Year 2009-10 GPS Corn A-Mazing •This was an Introduction to Global Positioning Systems class project with Professor Jade Morton •They integrated a survey-grade DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) with mapping software to allow a driver to follow the design and cut the maze •Two students and one mower did in a few hours, what would have taken several adults several days of measuring and cutting using conventional methods, and the GPS cut was much more accurate MUITDC –Winning Team MUITDC-Video-Still.jpg MUITDC_10_Biomass.tif Developing new solutions for “Clean and Alternative Energy Systems” was the goal of this year’s Miami University Interdisciplinary Technology Development Challenge. The winning team answered that challenge with a “Gasification of Biomass” reactor. Catherine Almquist, Associate Professor of Paper and Chemical Engineering, served as the winning team’s faculty advisor.
