CSE 488/588 Image Processing and Computer Vision

Catalog description:

An introduction to computer vision including sensors and image formation, camera geometry, signal processing, feature detection, tracking and motion estimation, scene understanding, image classification, segmentation, object detection, and deep learning.

Prerequisites:

CSE 274, and either MTH 231 or MTH 331

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Explain theoretical and practical aspects of computing with images.
  2. Explain geometric relationships between 2D images and the 3D world.
  3. Implement robust image matching and alignment.
  4. Implement image classification, object detection, and semantic segmentation solutions.
  5. Evaluate and compare computer vision solutions using appropriate criteria.
  6. Defend a claim based on experimental data using a formal writing approach. (Graduate students only)
