Student Information for Undergrad and Graduate Degree Candidates

  • To assure receipt of your diploma, all degree candidates MUST complete the online ceremony attendance form. Whether or not you plan to attend the ceremonies, the form must be completed no later than  Monday, May 2.
  • On the day of the ceremony, arrive at Goggin Ice Center no later than 3:30pm and proceed to the Recreational/Practice arena.
  • Check in at your departmental table as indicated by your major. Pick up your name card and when directed to do so, line up for the Processional. Line up begins at 3:45pm.
  • Students must be dressed in the university approved cap and gown to participate in the ceremony. (Note: the tassel goes on the LEFT side of your mortarboard. Tassels moved from the right side to the left at the university commencement ceremony earlier on Saturday). Business casual attire under your robes.
  • The Processional will start promptly at 4:00pm.
  • All bags will be checked upon entering the Goggin Ice Center. Please plan to leave all non-essential items in your locked vehicle. 
  • Tickets are not required.

Parking

Garages will be open to the public during commencement weekend. City of Oxford parking regulations are in effect at all times. This includes parking meters on South Campus Avenue and the Uptown district (High Street, Uptown Parking Garage, and side streets). Accessible parking is available with your state-issued disability placard only. Visit Parking and Transportation Services for parking maps and additional information.

Disability Services

Accessible parking is available in the Campus Avenue Parking Garage and alongside Oak Street. A valid state-issued disability placard is required to park in accessible parking spaces.

Accessible seating is available all around the upper level of the arena. Please connect with an usher upon arrival and they will be able to assist you. Guests sitting in the accessible seating area are permitted one companion to accompany them in the accessible seating area.

Reception

We invite all graduates and guests to join us for a reception immediately following the ceremony. The reception will be held in the Recreational/Practice arena of Goggin.

FAQs

Is there a limit to how many people I can invite?

No. There is plenty of seating and you may invite as many people as you like.

Do my guest need to RSVP for the ceremony?

No.

Are tickets required for the ceremony?

No.

Will concessions be available?

Concessions are not available at the ceremony. There are vending machines located on the lower level of Goggin by the skate shop. There will also be a reception for the graduates and their families immediately following the ceremony where light refreshments will be served.

Is the reception open to family and friends?

Yes.

How can I secure my personal items during the ceremony?

It is important that you do not take purses, bags, or other personal items with you into the arena for the ceremony. The ceremony process often requires participants to be seated in a different area/seat after they receive their diploma. This means that personal belongings left at your original seat will be irretrievable until AFTER the ceremony. For your convenience, you may wish to use the lockers provided near the vending area at Goggin. The vending area is located near the skate shop on the lower level of Goggin, just outside the doors to the practice arena. There is a fifty-cent fee for each use.
