2021 Student Speaker: Micki Smolenski

Micki Smolenski: the 2021 Recognition Ceremony Student Speaker

Micki will graduate with a major in Software Engineering and a minor in Theatre Arts. At Miami, Micki was the president of Stage Left and the University Academic Scholars Program (UASP) and was on the executive board for Miami University Student Ambassadors. She is a member of cohort 8 of the Lockheed Martin Leadership Institute and Tau Beta Pi honors fraternity, and participated in the Scholar Leaders LLC.

Micki was a part of several theatre productions, as an actor, choreographer, director, and scenic designer. Micki directed three shows--two of which she devised herself. She has earned Honors with Distinction for writing an IRB research-devised play based on interviews with women in STEM professions. The piece, From Where We STEM, premiered at Miami University Theatre Fringe Festival and was recently selected for the Lime Arts Productions’ Twenty by Twenty Fringe Festival set to perform this May. On campus, she worked as a Student Assistant in the CSE Department, an Honors Ambassador, a Tour Guide and a Group Fitness Instructor.

During the summer of her junior year, Micki had two internships with Driving Forward and PlayMaker’s Laboratory. After graduation, Micki will go back Chicago to work for NielsenIQ as an Early Career Program Product Associate. She will continue her theatre work with PlayMaker’s Laboratory and teach dance at her former studio.

Some of her favorite memories at Miami surround her time with Stage Left, and spending time in Calabria, Italy learning, and, of course, eating lots of pasta. She would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support, as well as her advisors and professors, without whom she would not have made it here today.
