Exploring Experiential Learning and New Literacies for a New Generation of Students

Purpose and Description
The purpose of this community is to develop a multidisciplinary framework that faculty/instructors, graduate students, and librarians can use to create scholarly and open/affordable resources that will align and support innovative and experiential learning class projects.
Examples of class projects include but are not limited to:
- a research paper that will integrate data literacy by analyzing/creating dashboards or maker literacy by customizing/editing 3D designs;
- a video project that will incorporate collaborative/shared storyboarding or use of 360 videos;
- a digital scholarship/humanities project that will use web-based tools to visualize/embed content using interactive maps or timelines;
- a STEM project that can use immersive alternatives that will help students explore and understand abstract or complex concepts (protein structure) in 3D environments.
Activities
Members will:
- read and discuss reports and articles from The Chronicle of Higher Education, EDUCAUSE, and Inside Higher Ed, along with selected chapters from the books Academia Next: The Futures of Higher Education and Learning Innovation and the Future of Higher Education,
- explore, debate, and reimagine class projects that integrate creative and active learning techniques, and
- be expected to attend and participate in face-to-face 2 hr. meetings, eight to ten times during the academic year.
