My work stems from a long trajectory, beginning with early opportunities to engage in scholarly activities with established research communities and researchers. During my Master’s program, Dr. Keffrelyn Brown asked me to assist her in conducting an extensive literature review on culturally relevant and responsive teaching. This resulted in a lengthy, co-authored book chapter in The SAGE Guide to Curriculum in Education. It also resulted in presentations at two leading research conferences (i.e. NAME and AERA) and supported my thesis on culture-focused, teacher professional development in which I historicized culturally relevant teaching and present-day discussions.
