Research Interests:
I am an applied sociolinguist who uses various discourse analytic approaches to study written documents (e.g., policies) and spoken interactions (e.g., doctor-patient interactions). My research aims to advance our understanding of the role language plays in the sociocultural construction of everyday issues. My most recent work examines the language of opioid policies and their enactment during medical visits. I am also investigating the influence of race, gender, and cultural perceptions of pain on physicians' prescribing practices.
