Chair's Message

Roland Sintos Coloma - Headshot

Welcome to the Department of Teacher Education, where our undergraduate and graduate programs prepare caring, competent and transformative educators to serve as agents for positive change in schools and communities. Our award-winning faculty exemplify Miami’s teacher-scholar model by offering dynamic and innovative courses, generating critical and high-impact research, and providing personal attention to the academic and professional advancement of our students.

Our undergraduate and graduate students are prepared to work in various geographical settings with diverse learners, using the latest technological tools for teaching and learning. They have high quality field experiences and immersions in urban, suburban, rural, and even international settings, working closely with diverse learners, including racial minority students, students with special needs, and English language learners. Through our digital learning initiatives, they harness the power of technology, such as the use of computer-generated avatars and simulated teaching environments.

Teaching is one of the most important and impactful professions, and this is a crucial time to be actively and critically engaged in it. On behalf of our department’s faculty, staff, students, alumni, and school and community partners, I invite you to join us.
