Bio

Dr. Laixely is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Miami University, with over 16 years of combined early childhood, elementary, high school, and university teaching experience. Her educational and scholarly activity complement each other, with an emphasis toward anti-racist, anti-oppressive, abolitionist pedagogy and teacher perspectives.

Currently, Dr. Laixely is in the process of developing research articles for journal publication, derived from her dissertation research in which she worked with Black girls to examine identity and overdiscipline in public school spaces. A former elementary music teacher, Dr. Laixely values the arts and aesthetics as well as mindfulness/meditation and SEL practices in relation to teacher education, child development and play, and research with children.

In the university classroom, she values five tenets: Model, Chase the Why, Become Comfortable with Discomfort, Be Kind but Ask the Hard Questions, and Teach Humans First.

Dr. Laixely lives with her wife, Korina, two cats, Boo and Tiki, and their dog Howler. Ask her questions about Star Wars.
