Yes, to be a paid America Reads Tutor, you must have received a Federal Work Study award. There are no exceptions.

Tutors work with students’ in Miami partnership schools in Talawanda, Middletown, Hamilton and Cincinnati. Students' ages range from Kindergarten to eighth grade. All students have been identified by their teachers as needing extra help in reading and or math. America Reads America Counts works exclusively with elementary school students.

When a tutor first begins with America Read America Counts, he or she fills out a schedule request form, indicating all times that the tutor is willing and available to work, as well as the minimum and maximum hours desired each week. This schedule is then coordinated with requests from teachers. Grade and school preferences are also considered.

Hours are flexible from as little as 5 to a maximum of 20 hours per week. All tutors, however, must keep a consistent schedule each week. Tutors must also complete mandatory training upon initial acceptance to the program.  Paid tutors: All paid tutors must work at least 5 hours per week.
