Notification of Changes to Ohio CPA Exam Application Timeline

As of January 16, 2014, the Ohio State Board of Accountancy no longer accepts the Certificate of Enrollment/Request for Early Release of Notice to Schedule (NTS).

How does this affect you? Students will not be able to apply* for the CPA exam and receive their NTS until all educational requirements to sit for the exam have been completed. If you will be completing all educational requirements during spring semester, you will apply for the exam in May, submit your final transcript as soon as it is available (usually within seven (7) business days of the graduation ceremony), and your NTS should be issued to you within ten (10) business days. In all likelihood, you will not receive your NTS in time to schedule an exam before the end of May. There is no testing in June, and according to The Candidate Bulletin you must schedule an exam at least five (5) days in advance.

How does this affect your study plans? Becker will still offer their FastPass program on Miami’s campus this summer, beginning with the Business (BEC) section on May 19, followed by the Financial (FAR) section beginning June 2. Students who are not able to sit for the Business section in May will take both the BEC and FAR sections in July. The FastPass schedule allows plenty of time for students to review for both sections in the second half of June and sit for both before the Regulation (REG) section begins July 8. It is common for students in many parts of the country to sit for more than one section at a time, and they are not disadvantaged by this arrangement.

What are my other options? Becker will tentatively repeat the BEC section on Miami’s campus August 11-15. Please note that this offering is contingent on a sufficient number of students registering for the course. Alternatively, a FastPass BEC course is offered at DeVry University in Cincinnati August 4-8.

*Applications will be held for a maximum of four (4) weeks, so technically you can apply at the beginning of May and submit transcripts as soon as your final grades post. If final transcripts are not received within four weeks of the application, your application will be canceled and your application fee forfeited.
