SCMA Activities

The Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) exists to provide career development opportunities for supply chain students at Miami University, although the club is open to all majors. These career development opportunities include professional speakers, tours of plants, case competitions amongst Miami students and other universities, and social events. Additionally, the club elects an executive board that allows students to hold a leadership role and connect with professors and companies.

A membership in SCMA also includes a membership in APICS (a professional association for supply chain management that provides research, education and certification programs), the Institute for Supply Management (which is the first and largest not-for-profit professional supply management organization) and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (which is another organization dedicated to research and knowledge on supply chain management).

Examples of recent plant tours include:

  • Honda of America Manufacturing, Marysville, OH
  • Schneider Electric, Oxford, OH
  • Toyota, Kentucky
  • Hudson Bay/GILT Distribution Center, Louisville, KY
  • Amazon DC, Jeffersonville, IN

Case Competitions

The Management Department sponsor SCM students and pays most of the expenses for several SCM-oriented case competitions each year. Most recently, this included:

  • General Motors/Wayne State, MI
  • Michigan State University
  • Denver Transportation Club
  • Weber State, UT
