2022 Shade Family CBL Emerging Leaders Consulting Experience
Winter Term Study Away Program
Chicago, Illinois

Living the life of a consultant over Winter term is a great way to experience the CBL in a real-world setting.  The CBL Emerging Leaders Consulting Experience (ELCE) is a fun and transformative experience in Chicago this January 3 -14. The program is offered in partnership with leading professional services consulting and accounting firm, EY. Participants will stay at the prestigious Union League Club of Chicago, which was a client in s 2020 and asked to host us going forward at a deep discount based on how impressed they were by the program.

We are pleased to announce that CBL Board member and EY Chicago Partner, David Shade, announced that the Shade Family Foundation is the 2022 named sponsor for the ELCE.  The Shade Family Foundation has funded a number of major Miami projects over the years—you probably are most familiar with the Shade Family Room in the ASC foyer.

The ELCE provides a real-world consulting firm experience for Miami students The 2022 ELCE once again will take place in Chicago and will include a number of key organizations. The program involves one course (3 credit hours), entitled, “Strategy Based Consulting” (which can be taken as a MGT or ACC elective), and includes a number of consulting projects that involve actual companies in Chicago.  Program participants work for one firm and visit all clients to hear about the various business challenges. All participants are assigned to one client to work on its challenge and teams are invited to collaborate with each other along the way like in an actual firm.  EY will present a comprehensive workshop and several professionals are further willing to meet with teams subsequent to the workshop when preparing final presentations.

Past clients included Nielsen, Cintrifuse, and Western & Southern (2018-Cincinnati); The Field Museum, Willis Towers Watson, and Union League Club of Chicago (2020-Chicago); and Scotts Miracle-Gro, CBORD (Roper Technologies), and Kohlberg & Co Private Equity (2021-Virtual). Discussions are under way now with EY and past clients to determine the clients that will participate in 2022—we will announce them as soon as they commit.

There will be museum and other cultural visits and several group dinners, including a Celebration Dinner after the final presentations that includes all of the clients.

The program was successfully offered in 2018 in Cincinnati; in Chicago in 2020 just before the pandemic; and held virtually in 2021.
