Advising Appointments

Meet with your advisor

  • Determine the appropriate advisor. You can also find your advisor through the student tab of myMiami; see Academic Advisors section on the right side of the page.
  • Advisors in 1022 FSB use Navigate to schedule advising appointments. Please see the instructions below.
    • FSB Advisors advise all first-year, sophomore, junior, and senior business majors.
    • Non-FSB majors should plan to visit daily drop-in hours.
  • Plan Ahead! During peak advising periods (October-November and March-April), you should schedule your advising appointment 2 or more weeks ahead.

How to Check-In for Drop-In Advising

  1. Due to COVID-19, Drop-in advising (Monday through Friday from 1-4 pm Eastern Time) will now be conducted remotely over Google Chat. Please let us know if you would prefer using a different platform.
  2. Drop-in hours are for quick questions that can be answered in 10 minutes or less. If you have questions or concerns that may take longer, please schedule an appointment with your assigned academic advisor.
  3. Drop-in advising is available Monday-Friday 1:00-4:00 pm during fall and spring semesters starting on 08/12/2020.
  4. There are typically multiple advisors available during drop-in advising and students are met with on a first-come, first-served basis. Wait times may vary. During peak registration periods, wait times can exceed 30 minutes. 

1. Login to Navigate

  • If your home screen does not say Student Home, click the triangle drop-down menu and select Student Home.


2. Click Schedule an Appointment.

3. From the 3 drop-down menus, select Advising & Academic Support, Farmer School of Business Academic Advising, Drop-In Appointment. Then Click Next.

4. Select Farmer School of Business Academic Advising (FSB Academic Advising Remote Appointment) and click Next.

  • You will then be at a page that tells you if Drop-Ins are available or not. If Drop-Ins are available, you will be able to click Drop-In Online to meet with the first available staff.

  • If Drop-Ins are unavailable, it will be noted. Drop-Ins occur Monday through Friday from 1:00pm-4:00pm

5. Once you click Drop-In Online, you should look out for an email, text, or phone call for next steps. Please go to chat.google.com where you will receive a message from an academic advisor.

6. If you need to remove yourself from Drop-Ins before you have met with an academic advisor, you will need to go to your home page and click Check Out on the right hand corner.

How to Schedule an Appointment in Navigate

  1. Login to Navigate
  2. Select Schedule an Appointment from the top-right corner. An image of the Navigate Home Screen.

  6. Confirm the Location as Farmer School of Business Academic Advising (FSB Academic Advising Remote Appointment) and then click Next.Image confirming the location for FSB Advising
  7. Select the Date and Time you wish to schedule your appointment (if you can't find a time that works for you, we offer drop-in advising Monday through Friday 1:00-4:00. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. There are usually multiple advisors available for quick questions during drop-in advising).   8. Check over details. Leave a comment for your advisor on why you would like to meet (for example, degree planning, study abroad, a question about an academic policy). Check the "Send Me an Email" box to get an email confirmation of the appointment, and click Confirm AppointmentImage depicting the final screen before confirmation

Navigate: How to Cancel an Appointment

  1. Login to Navigate
  2. On the right-hand side of the home screen click on the meeting in Upcoming Appointments.
    Within SSC-Campus advising appointment scheduling system, students can select the upcoming appointment location and their name to cancel an advising appointment.
  3. When the dialogue box pops up, click Cancel My Attendance in the bottom left-hand corner.
  4. Select a reason from the drop-down menu and add a comment. Then, click Mark as Canceled.
  5. You will see Appointment Canceled along with your comment. Click Close to exit the dialogue box OR click your name on the left side menu to reverse your cancellation.
  6. You and your advisor will receive an email notification with the cancellation.
