Celebrating the Day of the Dead Traditions
Making Meaning of Loss and Resilience in the Time of Pandemic
Friday, October 30, 5:00-7:00pm
MacMillan Hall, Ground Level, Lounge
This year the traditional altar for the Day of the Dead will honor people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The display of the altar portrays the broad impact of the pandemic on the overall wellbeing of Black and Latino Ohioans.
Hosted by Unidos -Latinx Student organization, the Center for American and World Cultures, and the International Student Center
The Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is an ancient tradition dating before the conquest of Mexico by Europeans. Just as it was reinvented to be syncretic with the Catholic tradition of All Saint's Day, so it continues to be continually reinvented as a contemporary living tradition, often with political overtones. ~Giovanni Batz, former assistant professor of Anthropology, Miami University.
