Travel Background

I delight in traversing borders and cultures. When I was a sophomore in college, I traveled to Zimbabwe to attend a conference that brought together students from all over Africa. My job after college accorded me numerous opportunities to travel and host people from all over the world. In 2002, I spent a memorable summer in Lisbon enjoying Portuguese food, music and art, while studying in an intensive language program. One of my favorite destinations is Rio de Janeiro, where I led a study tour in 2019. To date, I have traveled to over 25 countries and I am looking forward to many more!

Travel Tip

Travel is a suitable time to grow as a person because it is an opportunity to leave your comfort zone. Make it a point to learn a few phrases in the local language especially common courtesies. You will be surprised at how much easier it is for people in the host culture to connect with you, when they see the effort you have made to meet them where they are. If you make a mistake or get stuck, just laugh it off with a friend. Humor is a great asset when traversing cultures!
