Communication

All of our communication goes directly to your student, so first and foremost we encourage communication between you and your student. But there are some things we do especially for parents and families:

Please note that due to Federal privacy law (FERPA), we cannot discuss specifics of your student's participation on the program. We can only provide general information that is true for all students. If you wish for us to be able to discuss specifics with you, then it is imperative to have your student complete a FERPA waiver which can be done during the application process.

Availability

You can always reach us by phone and email if you have questions you'd like to ask us directly. Our phone number is 513-529-8600 and our email is luxembourg@MiamiOH.edu.

Send-offs

Each summer some of our MUDEC Program Alumni host send-offs, which are informal gatherings with light refreshments; these are a great opportunity for students to meet with the other students in their cohort, to connect with recent and past alumni, and to ask any lingering questions they may have. The send-offs usually take place in mid-August, and all Fall and Spring students and their families are invited to attend. The locations are typically Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, and Chicago. Again, we will communicate the days/times of these send-offs with the students, and they will need to communicate the information to you.

Where is Luxembourg?

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in western Europe, bordered by the countries of Belgium, France, and Germany. Despite its small size, the physical landscape of Luxembourg ranges from rolling hills, castles, and picturesque villages to industrialized, metropolitan areas. It has a population of under a half a million people in an area of approximately 999 square miles.

What language do Luxembourgers speak?

While Luxembourg is one of Europe’s smallest countries, it is noted for its multilingual and multicultural society. Luxembourgers all speak several languages including Luxembourgish, French, German, and English. Home to major international banking, financial, and communication companies, Luxembourg is also the location of a number of European Union institutions, including the European Court of Justice.

How is Luxembourg connected to Miami University?

Luxembourgers have a genuine affection for Americans and have special ties with Miami University. Many citizens remember with gratitude that the American forces liberated their country during World Wars I and II. John Dolibois, for whom the European campus is named, was born in Luxembourg, immigrated to the U.S., came to Miami as a student in 1938, and returned to his homeland as U.S. ambassador during the 1980s.

Did you know that Differdange, where the Château is located, is sister cities with Oxford, Ohio?

Where do MUDEC students study?

Situated in a park at the center of Differdange, Luxembourg, is MUDEC’s Château de Differdange, a 15th-century castle modernized to meet the needs of a 21st-century education.

In addition to five classrooms equipped with smartboards, the Château is equipped with Wi-Fi, and includes an extensive upper-foyer lounge, a library and a grande salle des fêtes (the Grand Hall), additional study lounges, staff and faculty offices, residences for the Dean and other members of the faculty and staff, and of course, the Cave.

The Cave is MUDEC’s student lounge (once the Château’s wine cellar), a comfortable, quiet student space. Furnished with couches, a study area, a TV and Wi-Fi access, students can relax, do homework and plan weekend adventures. The Cave offers a kitchen equipped with plates, silverware, microwaves, refrigerators and a small dining area. The cave also houses MUDEC’s laundry facilities, lockers, a foosball table and vending machines.

Where do students eat?

Program fees include a meal plan, which provides lunches (M-R) prepared by our chef, Mr. Stephane Romanazzi. at the MUDEC Château. The Dolibois Center can accommodate vegetarian and vegan preferences and food allergies. Students also have a continental breakfast provided by their host family M-R. Dinners are not included in the meal plan, but students have options: they can cook in the student kitchen, enjoy leftovers from lunch, or eat at nearby restaurants. During independent travel on weekends, students can explore authentic European cuisine: think pasta in Italy, croissants in France, or pretzels in Germany!

Is there shopping near Differdange?

Auchan Opkorn, a large supermarket and shopping mall with stores and restaurants, is just minutes by foot from the Château. Students can also hop on the train and explore more options in Belval as well as Luxembourg City.
