Move In — Various Locations

New international students can move into their University housing. (Please note that an early move-in fee will be charged until the day the housing contract starts). Those living in off-campus housing should also plan to be moved in on this day (check lease agreement and confirm with property management for move-in date).

See Dining Hours of Operation for food on campus.

1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Bus Trips to Walmart — Shriver Center Bus Stop

Students will have the opportunity to shop at Walmart for room necessities, groceries, or anything else that is needed. Buses will depart from the bus stop on Maple Street at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Buses will return from Walmart at 3:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

Students are welcome to enjoy breakfast together or take a breakfast box to go.

Check In — Shriver Center John Dolibois Room

Students should swipe their card at the check in station to confirm their orientation attendance and receive orientation materials.

9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Orientation Welcome — Shriver Center John Dolibois Room

The International Student Orientation program begins with a welcome from International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) staff and International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs). Students will receive an overview of the orientation program.

10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Small Groups with iPOLs: Set Expectations and Tech Talk — Various and Kreger Hall

Students will be separated into small groups with their assigned iPOLs and peers. Groups will meet to discuss questions and expectations while looking ahead to life at Miami. iPOLs will make sure students can access various Miami systems and complete required tasks.

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Lunch with Small Groups (optional) — Various Locations

Check out the many options available in Armstrong and enjoy lunch with your small group.

1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Banking, Shipping, Tech/Phone Set Up, Room Set Up — Meet at International Student Center, MacMillan Hall

Students may use this time to complete important tasks. You may also choose to set up your room or relax!

Meet up outside the International Student Center, MacMillan Hall 017, to complete some important tasks.

3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Campus Tour — Various Locations

Meet with your iPOL small group to take a tour of campus. Please check with your iPOL for meeting locations. iPOLs will guide students around campus and explore Armstrong Student Center, King Library, One Stop, Student Health Service Center, Recreation Center and other places of interest.

Explore the Career Center and King Library — Armstrong Student Center and King Library

Learn about all the Libraries at Miami have to offer and connect with the Career Center to get ahead on your professional development.

Intro to Maintaining International Student Status — Shideler 152

ISSS staff will review government regulations for study in the U.S. and need-to-know information for maintaining international student status.

Students should check their “Orientation Badge” and email for details on when they are scheduled to complete the document check.

2:45 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Immigration Document Check — MacMillan Hall 214

International Student Advisers will be checking students' immigration documents to ensure that all documentation was processed properly at the Port of Entry. Please bring your original documents: Passport, Visa, and I-20 or DS-2019.

4:45 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Integrating Your Academic and Student Life — Armstrong Student Center, 3rd Floor Pavilion

Learn from a panel of Miamians about how to make the most of your experience at Miami University. Prepare for upcoming orientation activities.

5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Welcome Dinner (optional) — Location TBD

Enjoy dinner with all new students arriving for Spring 2022.

Students should check their “Orientation Badge” and email for details on when they are scheduled to complete the medical check.

8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Medical Check, Testing, and Wellness Visit — Student Health Services, Harris Hall

Please report to Student Health Services for a required tuberculosis (TB) test and COVID-19 test promptly at the time listed. Please bring your passport, student ID, and all vaccination records with you. If you are under the age of 18, be sure to bring your consent form signed by a parent or guardian. Note that the TB test will include a blood draw, so please drink plenty of water in advance and wear a short-sleeve shirt to the event. Students will also have the opportunity to learn more about health insurance, wellness at Miami, and visit the Recreation Center.

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Open Ice Skate at Goggin (optional) — Goggin Ice Center

Skate around the ice at your own pace for $5 with student ID, includes skate rental.

6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

New Student Social (optional) — Armstrong Student Center

Modality: in-person, Armstrong Student Center, Red Zone

Join student leaders, orientation staff, and other new students for board games and karaoke.

RedHawks Men’s Basketball Game (optional) — Millett Hall

Come wear your Miami gear and cheer on the RedHawks! Remember to bring your student ID to get into the game.
