Move In — Various Locations

New international students can move into their University housing. (Please note that an early move-in fee will be charged until the day the housing contract starts). Those living in off-campus housing should also plan to be moved in on this day (check lease agreement and confirm with property management for move-in date).

1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Bus Trips to Walmart — Shriver Center Bus Stop

Students will have the opportunity to shop at Walmart for room necessities, groceries, or anything else that is needed. Buses will depart from the bus stop on Maple Street at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Buses will return from Walmart at 3:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

Students are welcome to enjoy breakfast together or take a breakfast box to go.

Students should swipe their card at the check in station to confirm their orientation attendance and receive orientation materials.

Orientation Welcome — Shriver Center John Dolibois Room

The International Student Orientation program begins with a welcome from International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) staff and International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs). Students will receive an overview of the orientation program.


10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Small Groups with iPOLs: Set Expectations and Tech Talk — Various and Kreger Hall

Students will be separated into small groups with their assigned iPOLs and peers. Groups will meet to discuss questions and expectations while looking ahead to life at Miami. iPOLs will make sure students can access various Miami systems and complete required tasks.

Banking, Shipping, Tech/Phone Set Up, Room Set Up Meet at International Student Center, MacMillan Hall

Students may use this time to complete important tasks. You may also choose to set up your room or relax!

Campus Tour Various Locations

Meet with your iPOL small group to take a tour of campus. Please check with your iPOL for meeting locations. iPOLs will guide students around campus and explore Armstrong Student Center, King Library, One Stop, Student Health Service Center, Recreation Center and other places of interest.


6:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Make-Up English Writing TestVirtual/Online

This test is required for students who did not complete the online English placement test. The test will determine which English course you will take in your first semester. Students will receive instructions via email and need access to a computer (contact an iPOL if you do not have access to a computer.)

Students should check their “Orientation Badge” and email for details on when they are scheduled to complete the following activities.

8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Medical Check, Testing, and Wellness Visit Student Health Services, Harris Hall

Please report to Student Health Services for a required tuberculosis (TB) test and COVID-19 test at your scheduled time. Please bring your passport, student ID, and physical copies of all vaccination records with you. If you are under the age of 18, be sure to bring your consent form signed by a parent or guardian. Note that the TB test will include a blood draw, so please drink plenty of water in advance and wear a short-sleeve shirt to the event. Students should also know their local phone number and address.


8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

English Listening and Speaking TestVirtual/Online (International Student Center - MacMillan 017 if computer is needed)

This test is required for students who still need to complete the online English placement test. The test will determine which English course you will take in your first semester. Students who still need to complete this test will receive instructions via email.


10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Immigration Document Check  MacMillan Hall 214

International Student Advisers will be checking students' immigration documents to ensure that all documentation was processed properly at the Port of Entry. Please bring your original documents: Passport, Visa, and I-20 or DS-2019.


1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

Intro to Maintaining International Student Status — Shideler 152

ISSS staff will review government regulations for study in the U.S. and need-to-know information for maintaining international student status.


1:45 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Join with New Domestic Students — Armstrong Student Center, 3rd Floor Pavilion (online options available)

Students will join with a new small group!


2:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Academic Area Session and Small Group Meeting — Various

Students are invited to attend the College of Creative Arts session. Students completing orientation sessions online will receive additional details via email on January 19.

College of Education, Health and Society — online only

Students and family members are invited to attend; the Zoom link for this session will be sent on Wednesday, January 19.

College of Engineering and Computing — in person, Benton Hall, Room 102

Students and family members are invited to attend the College of Creative Arts session. Students completing orientation sessions online will receive additional details via email on January 19.

Learn from a panel of Miamians about how to make the most of your experience at Miami University. Prepare for upcoming orientation activities.

Academic Advising and First Year Small Groups — Virtual

Each student will have an individual academic advising and registration appointment with an advisor. Your advising time will be scheduled for you, and will be emailed to your Miami University email account by Thursday, January 19. Each student must complete the orientation Canvas course ahead of their advising appointment.


6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

New Student Social (optional)— Armstrong Student Center

Modality: in-person, Armstrong Student Center, Red Zone

Join student leaders, orientation staff, and other new students for board games and karaoke.
