Study abroad scholarships fund exceeds #MoveInMiami goal

#MoveInMiami. They unpack, we give back

By Kristin Magyari, Assistant Director for Communications and Marketing, Global Initiatives

#MoveInMiami is a fun, fast-paced fundraising event on move-in day. While the newest members of the Miami family unpack, we welcome them by giving back.

2019 was Global Initiatives’ third year participating in the festivities with a goal of 50 donations for the study abroad scholarships fund. Thanks to our generous donors, we exceeded the goal with 58 donations.

Assistant Provost of Global Initiatives, Cheryl D. Young, states, “Miami offers outstanding transformational student experiences, but now, more than ever, it is important for students to know and understand the world through immersion into global cultures, political and economic structures, and languages.”

Young continues to explain the use of these donations, “The funds raised through Move In Miami honors our incoming class and provides scholarships and programming that supports students in these high impact, life-changing, global experiences.”

Another #MoveInMiami project raised funds for the Miami University John E. Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg.

MUDEC Alumni Advisory Board Chair, Pam Archer, said, “We know MUDEC Alumni are passionate, especially after the amazing turnout we saw at the 50th Anniversary celebration in Luxembourg last fall. But never did we dream we’d get donations of almost triple our goal. How wonderful that now even more students can participate in the life changing experience that MUDEC has been to so many over the last 50 years.”

Overall, Miami was able to raise 4,731 gifts this #MoveInMiami, exceeding the 2,023 goal by over 200%.

To the class of 2023, welcome to Miami. And to our donors, thank you! Because of your gift, more Miami students will study around the globe, just like you did.

Study abroad is for every Miami student!
