Foodies Invited to 'Cook Differently Together' with ISSS

If you love to cook, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is planning a virtual event you won't want to miss.

But even if you just love to eat—or to hang out with other people while you eat—you should save the date for this culinary Zoom.

Cooking Differently Together with ISSS invites students, faculty, and staff to “show and tell” what they are making for their next meal. All levels of chef are welcome: instant noodle lover, left-over pizza reheater, sandwich artist, Chinese food master, Sushi itamae or whatever your cooking skill.

The idea is to cook along and engage in casual real-time conversation with fellow Miamians all over the world. Participants who send in a picture of their dish after the event will earn a chance to win prizes.

The event is the brainchild of ISSS International Student Coordinator Yuenan Jin Rodriguez. "I love food and enjoy cooking. When I was video chatting with family and friends back home, they would always talk about what they were having for meals. My mom would even tell me or show me how to make it," she said.

Rodriguez believes that cooking offers a way to help people from different backgrounds to connect in a casual setting, giving them a chance to showcase their cultural cuisine. "These days, pretty much everything is happening virtually. I think it will be fun to get people moving in their own kitchen and cooking together," she said.

Advance registration is recommended.
