
Steps to Graduation











Graduation Requirements
- A student under academic probation is not eligible to take a comprehensive examination, final examination (see the MU Policy Library), or to graduate.
- A student's cumulative Miami graduate-level grade point average must be at least 3.00, and a student may not have grades of incomplete, to take a comprehensive examination, to take a final examination (see the MU Policy Library) for any graduate degree, or to graduate.
- All Miami University academic integrity charges against a student must be resolved and sanctions completed before a student is eligible to graduate.
Graduation Procedures
- You must apply for graduation and pay a commencement fee by the application deadline dates in order to graduate (see Important Dates).
- Application fee for a certificate is $10.00
- Application fee for Masters and Specialists degrees is $35.00.
- Application fee for the Doctoral degrees is $200.00. The doctoral fee covers the cost of the diploma and the hood.
- You must apply online through BannerWeb and information about graduation can be found at the OneStop website.
- You must follow the formatting guidelines for submitting your thesis or dissertation. Contact the Graduate School ( gradschool@miamioh.edu) or visit the Graduate Student Association's (GSA's) Canvas site for formatting guidelines and the required templates. More information can be found on the Policy Library.
- If you are completing a thesis or dissertation as part of your degree, you must comply with the format check and upload deadline dates (see Important Deadlines and Dates tab).
- Questions regarding academic attire should be directed to the Miami University Bookstore.

Important Deadline and Dates
Before you can upload your thesis or dissertation to OhioLINK, you must have the format of your manuscript checked to be sure it conforms to the Graduate School's requirements. See 'Formatting Guidelines' (available on the Graduate Student Association's Canvas site under "FILES" and the "COMMENCEMENT" folder for more information regarding the formatting of your document. On the GSA site, you will also find the required templates for your thesis or dissertation front matter.
When you believe your document has been formatted correctly, please email your PDF to ETDS@miamioh.edu to begin the format check process. You must be aware of the format check and OhioLINK deadlines below. All forms must be turned into the Graduate School no later than 10 working dates before the date of commencement.
