Utility Systems Maintenance Specialist
General Function
Assists in maintaining university facilities by performing preventative and routine maintenance on boilers, generators, equipment auxiliaries, and other complex mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment, as well as steam and chilled water distribution systems
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions
- Monitor campus electrical systems.
- Perform predictive, preventative and routine maintenance on generators, engines, fuel trains and auxiliaries.
- Monitor engines and generator alarms.
- Install new and replacement equipment.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment to determine necessary repairs and the required parts, materials, and supplies.
- Provide supervision and guidance to Utilities Systems Maintenance Assistants as needed.
Reporting Relationships
Direction Received: Reports to University Engineer or Operations Manager
Direction Given: Functional guidance to a group of student employees working on an ongoing basis. May provide occasional training and instruction of classified staff.
Minimum Requirements
Requires nine months of technical training beyond high school and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires driver’s license.

Working Conditions
Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable.
