October 7th
National Depression and Mental Health Screening Day. For many people depression can feel as if all your strength is zapped just when you need it most. Getting screened and connected with resources can help and bring hope. 

Live Chat & Trivia Event 
Connect with your Benefits & Wellness Team via Google Meet on 10/7 @ 2:00 - 2:30 pm. We’ll also host a live trivia event to learn more about depression and stress in the workplace. Can’t make it, take our Stress Quiz your own time. Participants will have their name entered into a prize drawing to win a personal journal.

Wellness Challenge
The Hike-A-Thon has gone virtual for 2020--it’s not too late to register! Unplug, hit local trails, log your outdoor activities, and earn the chance to win prizes. Visit our wellness challenge website to sign up and learn ways to de-stress in nature. The challenge runs October 1 - November 1 and you can join any time. 

Campus & Community 
Benefits & Wellness Virtual Fair and Open Enrollment, Rec Center Group Fitness classes, and Student Counseling Virtual Workshops are a few additional wellness events taking place this month.

Journaling Practice
An overabundance of stress can be damaging to your physical, mental, and emotional health. Journaling is an incredible stress management tool (source). Give it a try with our inner strength journaling exercise. Write down 3 things you love about yourself (or are proud of) that have nothing to do with your appearance. Reflect on these 3 things, use them to boost self-acceptance and overcome stress. You can even tape them somewhere visible as a daily reminder!

Stress Break
Join a quick stretch or guided relaxation from your desk or workspace. Follow along live, or on your own schedule, with the YouTube recording.

Recipes
Social connection and healthy nutrition are two ingredients for overcoming depression and supporting mental health (source). Try making a meal with friends or loved ones this month. Check out our Pinterest Board for recipe ideas inspired by mental health & nutrition, feel good foods and more.
