Summary


Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are health care expense accounts for people covered under a high deductible health plan (HDHP). The account is designed to help save and pay for certain health care costs tax-free now and in the future. HSAs offer a triple tax savings for account owners:

  • Contributions are pre-tax.
  • The account balance grows tax-deferred.
  • Withdrawals for qualified health expenses are tax-free.

2021 Annual IRS Limits:

Single coverage HDHP: $3,600 per year (If over age 55, the limit is $4,600)

Family or Employee plus coverage HDHP: $7,2000 per family per year (If over age 55, the limit is $8,200 per family per year)
