Next month is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and in honor of it, Miami University’s IT Services is partnering with Ohio University to host something special:

Introducing: CyberMania! We will be competing with Ohio University to see who can get the most people to answer our cybersecurity quiz! We have put together a series of questions all about cybersecurity to raise awareness about why it is so important.

We all want to protect and secure our personal belongings in our life, taking precautions to prevent them from being seen or stolen. Our devices hold an abundance of information about us, such as personal information (like bank statements and healthcare records), browsing data, search histories, and access to social, work, and school accounts. Our whole lives are online, and it only makes sense to protect our online lives as we would our personal ones. That’s why cybersecurity is crucial, making sure no one can access private information that matters. By following simple cybersecurity protocols, we can avoid cyber attacks, online scams, and theft of online information.

Schools like Miami all over the country are beefing up their cybersecurity programs. Here, we deployed CrowdStrike on institutional machines to combat ransomware; we employ tools like a robust network firewall to block malware; and the Information Security Office investigates every reported instance of phishing.

Here in IT Services, we care about your protection and making sure no one has to deal with the breaching of their valued data. That’s why we do everything we can to ensure cybersecurity on campus – raise awareness so you can protect yourself. We are so excited to partake in CyberMania not only for a good challenge, but as a fun way to spread knowledge of how to protect yourself online.

We can’t wait to launch CyberMania on October 1 and show Ohio University just how secure we can be. Whichever school can get the most people to answer our quiz will be crowned the champion of cybersecurity!
