User Types and Training

The university’s brand is used by a wide variety of users. Below are the user classifications and the required training.

User Types

Novice Users

Novice users are individuals employed by Miami University who are not formally trained designers. Divisional marketing representatives appoint novice users in each division.

Power Users

Power users are formally trained designers, employed by Miami University. It is expected that power users are well versed in Adobe Creative Suite and design principles. Divisional marketing representatives appoint power users in each division.

External Users

External users are anyone who is not employed by Miami University. This includes, but is not limited to, agencies, vendors, and community partners.

What type of training is needed?

Novice users must complete brand training in order to gain access to our logos. If you'd like access to the university's Canva enterprise account, you will need to complete Canva training in addition to brand training. Due to a limited number of Canva licenses, you must first submit an application. Licenses are assigned by divisional communicators.

What type of training is needed?

Power users must complete advanced brand training. Due to a limited number of font licenses, you must first submit an application. After attending training, you will receive a brand toolkit, which will include all elements necessary to effectively design within the brand.

If you'd like access to the university's Canva enterprise account, you will also need to complete Canva training. Due to a limited number of Canva licenses, you must first submit an application. Licenses are assigned by divisional communicators.

What type of training is needed?

Before an external user can receive access to the university’s brand, an agreement must be in place that outlines external usage. University Communications and Marketing must review and approve all agreements that incorporate this language.

Once an agreement is in place, external users must complete brand overview training. Once complete, the external user will receive a brand toolkit, which will include all elements necessary to effectively design within the brand.
