Miami one of two recipients of 2026 Governor’s Inclusive Employer Award

University noted for its aligned leadership and accessibility expertise

Miami University is one of two recipients of the 2026 Governor’s Inclusive Employer Award, presented by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) to organizations with a commitment to individuals with disabilities in the workplace.

Cintas Corporation and Miami were recognized with the award on Oct. 1.

“Congratulations to both Cintas Corporation and Miami University on receiving the Inclusive Employer Award,” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said in a news release. “By valuing the contributions of skilled workers with disabilities and strengthening Ohio’s commitment to disability‑inclusive workplaces, both of these organizations show what it truly means to ensure Ohioans with disabilities have the opportunity to use their God-given talents.”

“Cintas Corporation and Miami University understand that strong teams make room for everyone,” said Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel in a news release. “Their efforts strengthen Ohio's workforce and help make sure every person can reach their full potential by using their individual talents."

Miami was honored for its aligned leadership, accessibility expertise, and Americans with Disabilities Act-focused policies across its employment and campus operations. OOD noted the university’s support of inclusive hiring and accessible environments through clear accommodation processes, trained search committees, and ongoing digital and physical accessibility practices.

Partnerships with disability organizations, certified accessibility staff, and accessibility standards in event planning and procurement further reinforces Miami’s proactive commitment to an inclusive workplace.

“Miami University remains committed to creating and sustaining an accessible educational environment that best serves all of our students, faculty, and staff,” Miami President Gregory Crawford said. “Our collaborative efforts across our campuses ensure members of the Miami community have access to technology, campus spaces, and events. We are honored, along with Cintas Corporation, to be the 2026 recipient of the Governor’s Inclusive Employer Award.”

Coinciding with National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the award is determined in alignment with OOD’s Inclusive Employer Toolkit. A five-member committee used a predetermined scoring rubric based on employer’s descriptions of policies, processes, and activities related to disability-inclusive employment.

OOD is a state agency that empowers Ohioans with disabilities through employment, disability determination, and independence.

“We appreciate our partnerships with Cintas Corporation and Miami University, which help connect qualified workers with disabilities to meaningful employment opportunities,” Kevin L. Miller, OOD director, said in a news release. “These awards encourage more employers across Ohio to take proactive steps toward disability-inclusive hiring.”

Established in 1809, Miami University is located in Oxford, Ohio, with regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, a learning center in West Chester, and a European study center in Luxembourg.
