To be considered for all available need-based financial aid and scholarships, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be submitted each year. The FAFSA becomes available on October 1 each year, which provides the following benefits:

Early availability: Early FAFSA submission gives students more time to assess their financial need and make informed decisions. Students may file the FAFSA at a later date, however they risk losing consideration for some awards. Students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA by the dates listed below.

Using income and tax Information already available: The FAFSA allows students and/or parents to report their income information from two years prior, which eliminates delays and using income estimates.

Transfer Your Tax Data Directly to Your FAFSA

Miami University recommends using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to import tax data directly into the FAFSA application. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) is available to most tax filers and is the easiest way to provide accurate tax information. Additional FAFSA Links & Information

• Students who do not have a FSA ID will need to create a FSA ID to complete the FAFSA. In addition, students and/or parents will need the FSA ID to electronically sign the FAFSA.
• If you have already submitted a FAFSA to another college, you will need to add our federal school code to the FAFSA in the School Selection section of the application. Miami University’s Federal School Code is 003077.
