Canvas on Mobile Devices

The Canvas interface was optimized for desktop displays, so using small form factors such as phones may not be a pleasant experience in using Canvas. For the best user experience, please download the Canvas Student app.

Since Canvas uses small elements of Flash, not all Canvas features may be supported by web browsers on mobile devices, especially on iOS. The following major browsers are compatible with mobile devices:

  • Safari (default browser with limited Canvas support)
  • Chrome
  • Photon Flash Player (supports Flash)

  • Chrome (default browser with limited Canvas support)
  • Internet
  • Firefox

Additional Requirements

  • Microsoft Office (2010 or later) is recommended.
  • JavaScript must be enabled to run the Canvas LMS. The Java plug-in is required for screen sharing in Conferences.
  • Flash is required in several places in Canvas: media recording/streaming and viewing as well as uploading files to a course or an assignment. Other than these features, Flash is not required.
