Miami encourages faculty and staff to build mutually beneficial and meaningful relationships with corporations, foundations, and other external constituencies. Many times these relationships can result in increased private support in the form of grants or gifts to Miami University.

Corporate and foundation partnerships can enhance virtually every aspect of campus life. Most frequently, the resulting gifts and grants that come about from these partnerships are made to support one of seven areas:

  • Capital infrastructure
  • Research
  • Scholarships
  • Education
  • Teaching
  • Service
  • Sponsorship
  • Unrestricted/undesignated

The Office of Research & Innovation, the Office of Development within the Division of University Advancement, and the Office of Career Services are responsible for identifying, coordinating, managing, soliciting and stewarding external corporate and foundation partnerships. These offices work closely with the President, Provost, Academic Deans, and Finance and Business Services to coordinate all corporate and foundation activity and all compliance associated with the acceptance of any gift or grant.

Only the Office of Development, Research & Innovation, or Finance and Business Services are authorized to negotiate and approve agreements and contracts with external entities. Individual faculty, department chairs, and deans are not authorized to sign agreements and contracts on behalf of the university. Thus it is important for faculty and staff to work with these offices so that proper pathways are followed to ensure compliance with donor/funder and legal requirements.

Of the seven areas identified above for corporations and foundations, the following offices can provide assistance and coordination for partnership activities.
