Policy

General

  1. Written notice of the intention not to recommend appointment for the next academic year shall be given by the President or the President’s designee no later than February 15 for a probationary faculty member in his or her first year of fulltime Miami University employment.  If a probationary faculty member does not receive a February 15 letter in his or her first year of fulltime Miami employment, then the person is normally entitled to at least a full academic year’s notice of nonreappointment. This notice will be sent by July 1 preceding the final contract year.  This provision for notice, however, does not preclude the termination of a probationary appointment for cause at any time. The “Termination of Appointment or Tenure for Cause” policy shall apply to such termination for cause.
  2. Written notice of the intention not to recommend reappointment for the next academic year of a person occupying a nontenurable rank shall be given by the President or the President’s designee no later than February 15. This provision of notice, however, does not preclude the termination of an appointment for cause at any time. The “Termination of Appointment or Tenure for Cause” policy shall apply to such termination for cause.
