Educational Unit

The education unit is the Department of Engineering Technology (ENT). This department is located on Miami’s regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, Ohio and is academically within the College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science, CLAAS. ENT reports to the Dean of CLAAS for academic and budgetary matters.

Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology (BS Completion Program)—The EMET program produces graduates who:

  • Possess the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to solve engineering technology problems associated with instrumentation and control systems.

  • Are knowledgeable of modern applications in process control systems.

Program-specific objectives for students entering the B.S. EMET concentration:

  • Use computer-aided drafting or design tools to prepare graphical representations of electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Use circuit analysis, analog and digital electronics, and computers to aid in characterization, analysis, and troubleshooting of electromechanical systems.

  • Use statics, strength of materials, and engineering materials, to aid in the characterization, analysis, and troubleshooting of electromechanical systems.

  • Use appropriate computer programming languages that could be applied to operating electromechanical systems.

EMET-Specific Student Outcomes

Graduates of baccalaureate degree programs, in addition to the outcomes required of associate degree graduates and appropriate to the objectives of the program, must also demonstrate competency to:

  1. use appropriate computer programming languages for operating electromechanical systems.

  2. use electrical/electronic devices such as amplifiers, motors, relays, power systems, and computer and instrumentation systems for applied design, operation, or troubleshooting electromechanical systems.

  3. use advanced topics in engineering mechanics, engineering materials, and fluid mechanics for applied design, operation, or troubleshooting of electromechanical systems.

  4. use basic knowledge of control systems for the applied design, operation. or troubleshooting of electromechanical systems.

  5. use differential and integral calculus, as a minimum, to characterize the static and dynamic performance of electromechanical systems.

  6. use appropriate management techniques in the investigation, analysis, and design of electromechanical systems.

Associate Degree: AD-MET
