Bootcamp: Get Your Courses Ready for Students

Faculty report that it may take several hours, spanning across multiple days, to prepare a course for the new term. This may also be true for you, not because there’s a lot of prep work to do, but more so because it’s an unfamiliar process in an unfamiliar system. With support and guidance from the E-Campus team, walk through the steps of preparing your online course so that you're ready to jump into facilitating a new term of meaningful and effective learning experiences with your E-Campus course!

  • Navigate a Canvas course site to review course content and learning engagements
  • Locate Course Author Notes and Important Course Information to assist with prepping a course for students
  • Prepare their online courses for students by:
    • updating instructor specific information (e.g. Contact information, syllabus, bio, etc)
    • setting up assignments and groups
    • preparing course announcements
    • reviewing course content for broken links and missing information

Preparing for the New Canvas Gradebook

In 2017, Canvas released a new grade book that has been available in beta, but not set as our default. In January 2020, ahead of the Spring term, the current grade book will be disabled and the new Gradebook will become the default. Early adopters are raving about the added features available in the new grade book, making grading in Canvas easier, more flexible, intuitive, and smarter -- thereby elevating the Gradebook user experience. Come see what’s new and learn how to navigate the new Gradebook in time for Spring 2020 courses.

Screencasting Tips and Tricks

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2019 | 12-1 PM | MUH MOS 316

Screencasting is the process of recording a video of your computer screen capturing everything and every action on the screen at a given time. The resulting video is called a screencast. Screencasts are often used to capture static objects like text, images, and files as well as more dynamic content such as audio, video, and even keystrokes and navigation. Screencasts are a powerful tool supporting teaching and learning and collaborative work. There are many screencasting tools available. This workshop will provide participants with a crash course in screencasting: from which apps to use to tips for making an effective screencast and how to share the videos you create.

This workshop will guide participants through how to use Miami’s apps including WebEx, G-Chat, and Google Meet to connect with others and advance initiatives.
