Dear Younger Self

To my younger self,

Oh my goodness, you are about to start a wild journey that is going to last the next 6+ years. Honestly, you have no idea what you are in for. That being said, try not to be so attached to the plans you’ve made for your life at this point (and yes, I know you will completely disregard that advice, because you’re me). The experiences you’ll have over the next few years will re-shape the way you look at yourself and the world around you, and the way you interact with others. You’ll be challenged in ways that you haven’t even considered yet. There will be a time that you think your plans are all working out perfectly and that it’s exactly what you want… but trust me when I tell you that it’s not, and you will end up EXACTLY where you’re supposed to be.

You think you know exactly who you are right now, but you’ll become the type of person you never imagined you could be, in all the best ways. It doesn’t come easily, however. There’s definitely going to be a lot of sleepless nights, a lot of laughter, and a lot of tears. You’ll also realize that you cannot, in fact, manage time as well as you think you can. But you’ll also find happiness in the quiet moments, and in some really unexpected places. You’ll build relationships that will last you for years… and some that won’t. You’ll accomplish some really incredible things, and you’ll also make a lot of mistakes.

Even though it seems far away now, graduation will come much more quickly than you realize (and you’ll do it twice!). Don’t rush it! Try to keep your mind as open as possible. Take some time for yourself too… you’ll need it. And no, you won’t listen to that either.

Don’t take yourself so seriously (you’ll get a lot better at this, believe me). Enjoy every minute. :)

Sincerely,

Me
