Gardner-Harvey Library Events

Miami Regionals' Gardner-Harvey Library on the Middletown campus will host numerous free events open to the public this fall.

September 3, TEC Lab Open House, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m, Gardner-Harvey Library. Learn about the laser engraver/cutter, watch the 3D printers in action, try your hand at 3Doodlers, make a button or magnet, or test out a number of other tools available to students, staff, faculty, and community patrons. There will be an opportunity to sign the user agreement to operate the TEC Lab independently.  

September 5, Book Discussion: The Awakening Land, 1:00 p.m, Gardner-Harvey Library. Dr. Marianne Cotugno, associate professor of English at Miami University, will solve the mystery of a reprint gone wrong! Conrad Richter's historical fiction trilogy The Awakening Land was reissued by Ohio University Press in 1991, but something was "ruined". Dr. Cotugno will explain that there was no error, and delve into larger questions about online reviews, authorial revision, and publication history.

September 18, National Park Talk: Arches, Bryce, and Canyonlands, 4:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m, Gardner-Harvey Library. Dr. Tammie L. Gerke, associate teaching professor in geology at Miami University, will share the geology and other interesting information about Arches, Bryce, and Canyonlands National Parks.

October 11, Ohio’s Historic Haunts: Ghost Stories with author James Willis, 6:00 p.m. Join the Gardner-Harvey Library and author James Willis at Verity Lodge for ghost stories around the fire. Willis is the author of various regional books such as 'The Big Book of Ohio Ghost Stories', 'Weird Ohio', and 'Central Ohio Legends & Lore'. This talk will delve into the connection between actual history and ghost stories from Ohio. Free to attend, with copies of Willis' book 'Ohio's Historic Haunts' for sale by the author.

October 16, National Park Talk: Great Sand Dunes, 4:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Dr. Tammie L. Gerke, associate teaching professor in geology at Miami University, will share the geology and other interesting information about the Great Sand Dunes National Park. 

November 20, National Park Talk: Mammoth Caves & Carlsbad Caverns, 4:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Dr. Tammie L. Gerke, associate teaching professor in geology at Miami University, will share the geology and other interesting information on two national parks, Mammoth Caves and Carlsbad Caverns.
