Miami University Regionals announces Veterans Day programs

American FlagMiami University Regionals will be honoring active military personnel and veterans on November 11 and 12 as part of planned Veterans Day programs.

The annual event on the Hamilton Campus will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 11 in the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center, presented by the Student Veterans Association Regionals (SVAR). Miami Regionals Vice President and Dean Ande Durojaiye will welcome participants, and the featured speaker is Dr. J. Thomas Hardy. A silent auction will help support veterans’ services.

Dr. Hardy is Chief of Staff at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He began his army career as an infantry platoon leader in the 101st Airborne Division and he served 18 months, serving two tours in Vietnam, as an advisor to a Vietnamese infantry unit prior to attending medical school in 1976. He retired in 1998, as a Colonel Army Hospital Commander with over 20 years of active service.

Persons planning to attend are asked to assist the SVAR by visiting MiamiOH.edu/Regionals/RSVP to RSVP.

On Friday, November 12, the Caring Community Collaborative of Liberty and West Chester townships is once again joining the Regionals at Miami’s Voice of America Learning Center for the annual salute to veterans, this year paying special tribute to veterans’ families.

The event begins at 11:30 am, and music will be provided by the Lakota West High School choir. The keynote speaker this year is Miami Regionals faculty member Geri Maples who currently serves as the Dayton and Southwestern Ohio Chapter Director with Blue Star Families. She is a military spouse and caregiver to her husband Robert, who served in the United States Army and the Ohio National Guard for over 20 years.

The event is open to all, especially veterans and their family members. All guests must be masked. A box lunch will be offered to everyone attending as they leave the program.

Anyone planning to attend is asked to register to ensure lunch and seating are available for all guests. You can register online at caringcommunitycollaborative.com or by phone at 513-518-6599.
