About the NPHC Drive-In
Miami University's NPHC is excited to host an inaugural Drive-In dedicated to the mission and success of local NPHC chapters. This is a student led and student developed curriculum that will utilize national and local speakers to engage in conversations about NPHC specific operations and issues.
Purpose
The purpose of the NPHC Drive-In is to engage in conversations surrounding today’s issues facing black Greek lettered organizations in the surrounding region. This program hopes to bring together a community of students to engage in the exchange of ideas and conversations surrounding the larger scale issues their chapters and councils face every day. Using the power of unity as a catalyst, we hope to engage various members of the regional black Greek community and challenge them to think about their existence in a new way.
This program will set students up to have real conversations through self-reflection, shared experiences, and personal accountability. Topics will include toxic NPHC traditions including hazing, sexual language and innuendos, and chapter elitism; hazing traditions including alumni involvement in hazing practices, secretive rush activities, and pre-membership activities; sustainability including recruitment and retention of new members; professional development, and more.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of participation in this program participants will...
- Understand the importance of building relationships within their community and with surrounding communities.
- Engage in challenging conversations regarding the history of their organizations and traditions that are harmful to today’s students.
- Enhance their sense of belonging at their respective institutions and the Miami community.
