Miami Receives Lifesaving Ambassador Award

Donor Annika Shaffer with Renate CrawfordDonor Annika Shaffer with Renate Crawford Miami recently received the silver level Lifesaving Ambassador Award from the Community Blood Center (CBC). The CBC collaborates closely with student activities and the Cliff Alexander office of fraternity and sorority life in connecting to student organizations and staff with blood drives on campus.

Last year (2018-2019), Miami consistently came within 90 - 94% of blood drive goals. Throughout the year, 1,438 students, faculty, and staff donated 1,074 units of blood over 9 student-sponsored and 4 faculty/staff drives.

“We’ve had the pleasure of working with CBC for 41 years,” said Colleen Blevins, associate director of student activities and the Cliff Alexander office of fraternity and sorority life. “Working with CBC is a wonderful opportunity for our students to see the direct impact their service provides to the community around them.”

The next opportunity to participate in a CBC blood drive on campus is the 41st annual Greek Week Blood Drive on Monday, September 23 and Tuesday, September 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Shriver Center Heritage Room.

Everyone who registers to donate will receive the “My Compassion Defines Me. I Donate Blood to Fight Cancer” t-shirt honoring September and October Blood Cancer and Breast Cancer Awareness months. Make an appointment to donate online at www.DonorTime.com or call (937) 461-3220.
