First-Year Experience Course Undergraduate Associates

Undergraduate Associates in first-year transition courses (e.g., UNV 101, BUS 106, CEC 101) serve as peer mentors to new Miami students. As participants in the UA program, students must work a minimum of 37.5 hours assisting an instructor with the planning and implementation of first-year transition courses.

Undergraduate Associates for first-year experience courses will

  • serve as undergraduate teaching assistants for first-year transition courses
  • provide valuable input, suggestions, and guidance to first-year students
  • earn one credit hour for the experience (if desired) and a notation on their transcript
  • engage with ah faculty/staff mentor
  • serve in a mentoring role that will positively impact new Miami students

UA Selection Timeline:

  • March 27, 2020 - Applications Available
  • April 13, 2020 - Priority Application Deadline (business students should apply by this date)
  • May 18, 2020 - Final Application Deadline
    • Note that UA applications will remain open as needed until all positions are filled.
  • July 17, 2020 - All UAs Notified of Class Placement

Priority consideration for the first-year experience course UA role will be given to those upperclass students who apply by Monday, April 13, 2020 at 11:59pm. However, applications through May 18, 2020 or until positions are filled. EDT 310: Applications of Peer Education

All first-year experience course UAs will be enrolled in a 1-credit hybrid (online + in person) course to support training and education around peer mentorship. This 1-credit course is required for the UA role. Those UAs returning to the position will have the option to receive 1 independent study credit, and will have the opportunity to serve as a UA mentor.

The first meeting of EDT 310 will take place the the weekend prior to classes starting in the fall. Please hold Sunday, August 23, from 9:00 am - 12:00pm for this training session and kickoff to the UA experience, although this time is subject to change and will be confirmed at a later date.
