Get your Miami student ID card at the Campus Services Center at 034 Campus Avenue Building if you have not already done so. If you have uploaded a photo for your ID, you'll simply pick up your card; otherwise, staff will take your picture and print the ID card while you wait.
Check into your residence hall (if you're living on campus). Stop by the Campus Services Center at 034 Campus Avenue Building to get your Miami ID card first, because your ID card functions as your residence hall room key
Orientation DAY 1: Wednesday, August 21, 2019 (Student Schedule)
Open a bank account or explore banking options. Visit PNC Bank in the Shriver Center (across from the Brick & Ivy Campus Store) OR First Miami Student Credit Union at the Armstrong Student Center, Room 1022.
Check-In — Armstrong Student Center
Check in and receive your orientation materials; the program will begin promptly at 10:30 am.
Welcome and Overview — Armstrong Student Center, Fritz Pavilion
- Welcome from the Vice President of Student Affairs
- The Four Cs of Orientation and Transition Programs at Miami
- Introduction of Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders (SOULs)
Students will meet in small groups of first-year or transfer students with their Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL). Each group will discuss highlights from the afternoon's sessions, students' questions (about anything!), and help everyone make connections with other first-year or transfer students.
Lunch & Resource Fair - Armstrong Student Center
Lunch will not be provided by the orientation program, but students and family members can purchase lunch at Armstrong Student Center, where several dining locations will be open.
During lunch, you'll have time to learn about Miami resources and involvement opportunities at the Resource Fair. Staff from many offices around campus will be available to answer your questions and let you know about a wide array of resources and support for Miami students.
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Liberal Education @ Miami - Armstrong Student Center, Fritz Pavilion
A faculty member will discuss Miami's approach to Liberal Education and its relationship to your academic experiences.
1:45 p.m. - 2:45pm
Academic College Meetings — various locations
This session describes in detail the degree requirements for the University, including the Global Miami Plan for Liberal Education, divisional, and major requirements.

Exploring Paths to Your Future: Career Clusters — Armstrong Student Center, Fritz Pavilion
Career Center staff will introduce career clusters and lead an activity to help students begin to identify their career clusters of interest.
Community Expectations — Armstrong Student Center, Fritz Pavilion
A representative from the Office of the Dean of Students will discuss the expectations for students as members of the Miami community, and address campus values and resources regarding important topics such as alcohol and other drugs, sexual assault and interpersonal violence, and harassment and discrimination.
Small Group Meeting #2 — various locations
Reconnect with your SOUL and small group to talk about life at Miami, including information and any questions you may have from the day's sessions.
One Stop and the Student Success Center — Armstrong Student Center, Fritz Pavilion
Because student bills are not generated until students register for classes, and because class starts on Monday, August 26, 2019, you must be prompt about paying your tuition bill once you've registered. To that end, this session will cover important information about bill payment and financial aid.
Announcements & Closing — Armstrong Student Center, Fritz Pavilion
Students will reconvene in their small groups with the SOULs to discuss academic and student life, and goals for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Dinner & Social— Armstrong Student Center
Students and families are invited to eat dinner in the Armstrong Student Center and then students are invited to participate in evening social activities.
DAY 2 (students only)

Academic Advising and Registration — Benton Hall (check-in @ the Benton Hall lobby)
Meet individually with an academic advisor, and then proceed to a nearby computer lab to register for fall courses. Note that academic advising and registration is for students only. Family members do not have specific programming on Day 2 of orientation, and are invited to visit campus offices as needed.

The Director of Parent and Family Programs will welcome you and provide an overview of Family Orientation sessions. Immediately following the family orientation welcome, hear from a Campus Services representative to learn more about student housing, meal plan and dining services, recreational services, campus stores, and student employment.

Miami understands the role of parents and families as partners in supporting students’ educational journeys. This session will address key aspects of student transitions to college, engaging you in anticipating the support that your student may need, and equipping you with specific resources that will help you become an effective partner in your student’s Miami experience.
