Closing and Move-out Information

Move-out - May 2021

  • 24 hour Quiet Hours begin at 7 pm on Friday, May 7, 2021.
  • Sign up to let the Office of Residence Life staff know when you plan to move-out using the MyPlansForDeparture form.
  • Do a little spring cleaning before finals so you're not overwhelmed when it's time to move out.

Checking Out of Your Room

  • All students must be fully moved out of their room by 7 pm on Friday, May 14, 2021.
  • Remove everything from your room, including everything in the drawers and closet. Leave your drawers open.
  • Unplug, empty, defrost and clean your refrigerator. Be sure to also clean the drip trays in the back of your fridge.
  • Take all of your trash and recyclables outside to the dumpster. Do not put trash in the hallways or bathroom receptacles.
  • Ensure your bedframe is right-side up to avoid the $50 fee for resetting your bed.
  • Remove everything from the walls, including any tape residue. Avoid the charges per piece of tape!
  • When you are ready to depart, you have two options for checking out of your room. You must do one of the following:
    • Option 1: Go to your lobby where you'll find an RA or RD at the check-out table. The RA or RD will come to your room to do an in-person room inspection. This is the best process to avoid some move-out charges (damage, cleaning, etc.) and if there are damages in the room that are specific to one resident.
    • Option 2: Go to your lobby and pick up a Contactless Check-out Form. Follow all of the instructions on the form. Complete and sign the form. Place the form under your Resident Director's office door.

Room Inspection

  • Your room will be inspected by an RA if you do in-person check-out, or after closing by your RD if you choose Contactless Check-out.
  • Your room will be inspected for damages, missing furniture or uncleaned spaces and recorded in the online room inspection form.
  • If damage is not claimed by any individual resident, all occupants of the room will be charged.
  • RAs do not determine the final charges. Resident Directors and/or Housing Managers from the Physical Facilities Department finalize all charges after closing.
  • Your RA might ask you to do a more thorough job cleaning your room before completing the inspection.

  • Help divert tons of materials from the landfill while helping local social service agencies.
  • There will be a ShareFest drop-off location in every residential community.
  • Donate all still-usable clothing and shoes, cleaning supplies, personal care items and unopened food.
  • Do not donate foam mattress pads, pillows, underwear, opened food or broken items.
  • Do not leave household goods, microwaves, bedding, furniture, storage bins in the ShareFest donation area. Those items can be taken to the ShareFest drop-off location at the Chestnut Fields parking lot between Thursday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 19.

  • Clear all of the mail out of your mailbox.
  • During the summer, mail and USPS packages will be forwarded to students' permanent addresses in Banner. Packages from carriers who charge a forwarding fee (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) will be refused. If you are not returning to campus you should notify senders.

COVID Precautions

  • All student and guests must wear a face covering in all public areas of the buildings.
  • Even if you have received a full vaccination, you should still wear a face covering.
  • Only one person or group of people in the same contact pod should use the elevator at a time.
  • Wipe carts before and after use.
  • Practice physical distancing from others during move-out.

Have a great summer!
